Predicting the second half

Now that the bye week is over, it is time to look ahead to the second half of the season. The first half was a case study in disappointment for the team and its fans. The offense has been horrible. The defense has been wildly inconsistent. The team is 2-6.

Over the bye week, the Raiders should be getting key players back. Coach Tom Cable is confident that many of the offensive problems come from the injuries. The Raiders offensive line regressed once Robert Gallery went down to injury. However, with the output of the offense falling short of the 2006 edition, but does not seem promising.

Chiefs @ Raiders: This game is winnable for the Raiders. The Chiefs are an extremely bad team. The Raiders eked out a win against them in week two, with JaMarcus Russell driving the team down for a late game winning touchdown. This is the last best chance of a game being televised locally, with it being a division match-up.

The last two years, the Raiders and Chiefs split their home and home series with the visitors winning. Raiders win this game in a squeaker. (3-6)

Bengals @ Raiders: The Bungals are no more. The only suspense in this game will be settled a few days before when Chad OchoCinco sends the Raiders their care package. The Bengals are firing on all cylinders. Cedric Benson will be licking his chops at the chance for a 200 yard plus game. (3-7)

Raiders @ Cowboys: The Cowboys have been an inconsistent team, but they should be able to beat the Raiders without much of a problem. The Raiders best chance would be for the Cowboys to lay an egg as they are occasionally prone to do. This will be national TV and their new home. Raiders are toast. (3-8)

Raiders @ Steelers: Not even close. The Raiders will be destroyed in Pittsburgh. (3-9)

Redskins @ Raiders: This is an intriguing match-up between two teams who are both in complete disarray. Both teams have head coaches that are expected to be let go at the end of the season. They both have overbearing owners. They are both suffering through a bad season. Raiders win this battle of disappointments. New attendance low sent (4-9)

Raiders @ Broncos: Broncos are one of the top teams in the league. The Raiders aren't. Any given Sunday, maybe? Not this time. (4-10)

Raiders @ Browns: This will be one of those games where Deion Sanders will say, "Do we have to?" before NFL Gameday cuts away to the highlights. This is two teams that will be jockeying for position. It will be an ugly game where the fewest mistakes wins. Browns take it at home. (4-11)

Ravens @ Raiders: Doesn't look like the Ravens will have everything clinched and their starters resting. The Raiders limp into the offseason, this team will have given up. Cable will be working on his resume during the second half. (4-12)

YOU'RE RIGHT! SAD BUT TRUE
2010 here we come

I really want to disagree with this assessment. Really. The problem is: I do not. At all. I Could argue the Browns game outcome, but after KC and the 'Skins that is the only real shot for a win. However, trying to be the optomist, we can hope for a repeat of the Eagles game. Ie: Raiders overachieve and their opponent underestimates them and phones it in. Dallas would be the most likely candidate for that scenario as you say. Unlikely, though.

Patrick - How dare you? Are you insane? You are just asking for the Koolaid drinkers to come and tell you how horrible your site is and how they can't read your lies anymore! You are speaking the truth of course, but that is not allowed in Raiderland. All this losing is so tough to take. Why can't we turn it around? That is a rhetorical question of course as we all know the reason, but it is so sad. There really is a lot of talent on our team. With the right system and right coaching (allowed to coach of course) I still think we could be as great as Al thinks we are.

I do think we will win one of the ones you expect us to lose. Probably the Bronco's or maybe the Cowboys. Sadly I also think we will lose at least one of the two you think we will win. We are just too inconsistent. Top 5 draft pick here we come!
Good assessment Mr Patterson

If you've read my comments, you know where I stand. The Raider ticket sales office called me about two weeks ago to assess my interest in season tickets. I said I would start buying again when we started winning AKA when HE passes. I actually think your being generous at 4-12. I can actually imagine us not winning another game. To be truthful, that might not be so bad. It strikes me that Al can only deny the truth until death and that only the direst results could force him out of denial before that event. I'm putting my vote in early for a draft pick. Let's draft a kicker. We really do that well. And if we do that, it will create a special teams controversy thereby ruining that aspect of our game as well. Yup I think we would be as completely screwed up as we could get then. I am reminded of that scene in Days of Thunder where Robert Duvall kicks in the only good fender left on their car and says "I want you to be perfect."
Sick up and fed.

The Raiders are perennial losers because they ignore the lines with the high draft picks. The Raider lines are built with low draft picks and rejects from other teams. The team is only as good as the guys up front and the depth that backs them up. Great players at every position on the lines elevate the players behind them but the opposite is not true.
another top 5 draft pick bust

i could see them not winning another this season also.and iknow there are alot of teams with less wins, but i think every team in the leaue is better than the raiders
No hustle

True. Sad thing is that player for player we look good. Exception to sick and fed up regarding the lines. I count three linemen that could earn their keep elswhere, Gallery (bust tackle/good guard) Seymour, and Ellis. The rest are losers, have loser attitudes or are just plain cast offs from other losing situations at their individual positions. Crap, now I have to mention the LBs. Ours couldn't make it any where else at that position either. So there you have it. Player for player we look pretty good until you get to the move people/hurt people positions. Oh yeah, And that one really big, fat, lazy, stupid stand out that obviously won't make it any where else JR. Al, Al, Al...go away already.
I want to like these guys

and I want to hope they do well. Hell if Jabustus showed up a new man and led us to 8 straight victories starting next week, I would eat crow and wear I'm stupid T-shirts everywhere I went. Probably safe on that bet.smilies/cool.gif

SnBsn69 - Yeah, wouldn't go out and buy that shirt or anything. I'm not sure exactly what Jamarcus needs to turn it around (though I have some ideas) but a week OFF is not it that is for sure.
