John Clayton reports Kiffin replacement in works

John Clayton

Geeze John! You killed my good day!

And just when I was having a pretty good day.  A day after several players had already said they wanted Kiffin in Oakland and on a day where Kiffin seemed in great spirits and a day where Kiffin's silver and black shield could be seen on his shirt, John Clayton of ESPN reports that the Raiders are interviewing his successor.  Ah crap!  Sorry for the language folks, but what a way to end my good day.

Well, why should I be the only one with messed up day?  So there you go!  Now your day can be messed up too.

Screw that 4-eyed dork! It won't be the first time ESPN was wrong on this.

It sucks because he is so dam close to turning this thing around, only if Davis would give him and the team some confidence like a normal owner, the team would get some w's what do you guy's think? Sucks man! I feel the next Shannahan brewing up! You guy's with me?

I think it's great, I hate the Raiders I hate Davis. I love going to Raider games though to cheer on the opposing team.

Thankfully this entire saga seems like it's coming to it's conclusion. This does bring back an eerie reminder of back when Davis fired Mike Shanahan. But for the sake of optimism, Art Shell did come in that year and take the team to an 8-8 record. That's much better than what we've been subjected over the last five years. Now I'm not suggesting that Al bring Art back, but maybe with this cloud of controversy finally lifted from over the team, the will become more focused. As for the interim replacement, I read the report Clayton provided on ESPN's site. Greg Knapp, Tom Cable, and James Lofton are all going to be interviewed by Davis, and we should have a replacement by tomorrow. Interesting that Rob Ryan's name wasn't thrown into the group of prospective coaches. Looking at that trio though, it's tough to get excited about them. None have been a head coach on this level, and you have to wonder if this is going to lead to another bizzare job search at the season's end. So who's going to be the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders? Will Al break the bank for Bill Cowher to come to the Bay? How about Brian Billick? Maybe he will bring along Jim Fassel and Marvin Lewis as his coordinators. Does anyone think he can coax one last hurrah out of Bill Parcells? Or is it back to the college ranks? Does he give Pete Carroll a call? Maybe John Harbaugh? Ha, maybe Mike Ditka will come out of retirement. Can you imagine what those press comferences would be like? Prime time television people. Just thinking out loud.

I meant to say Jim Harbaugh, Stanford's coach, not his brother who is currently heading the Raven's job. Sorry about that.

DRS,

Couldnt agree with you more man.

This team has so much talent and everybody knows it can get so far with a little more experience and stability.

We lost that game against a Chargers team with probably the most explosive offense & stellar D in the fourth quarter alone while holding them particularly scoreless for the rest of the game!

Now if that isnt a sign of optimism, I dont know what it is.

As long as Kiffin stays I say there is still hope for this season...

STAY UNITED RAIDER NATION... GOOD THINGS ARE TO COME IF KIFFIN STAYS.

I still hope that this is another chapter of the story of the boy who cried wolf by ESPN. You know that everytime ESPN has announced the firing of Kiffin it gives them material to talk about the Raiders because if this wasn't going on they would completely ignore them. You know the Eastern Shore Programming Network doesnt like to cover a team at the other side of the Mississippi and much less a team as tight lipped as the Raiders management. They wont mention thatthis team is very close to putting it all together, that contrary to the public opinion they can play with anybody in the NFL. It's more juicy to bring rumors by "sources". Couldn't this supposed meeting of Al Davis with the coaches be about something else? The shortcomings on third down caused by innefective O-Line and WR play should be addressed.
