49ers at the Raiders: The haters will be silent for now

JLH is ready to make some noise in 2008

Yesterday prior to the game, many of us were saying that there were no bragging rights over a preseason game. I agreed, expecting the game to be close in every way. I didn't expect to see what I did, a complete domination over a 49er team that is definitely in transition on offense, and still not cohesive on defense. I'm not saying go out and run smack over the win, but there's no reason not to feel confident that the team is rolling along in the right direction.

Let's go over the game with the good and bad.  In my article for yesterday, I gave you some tips on what to watch for.  Along with my assessment on how the Raiders did in those areas, I'll point out the players that made an impression, good and bad.

First team defense

What I wanted to see from the first team defense run-stopping.  They played off the receiver mostly, allowing a slant pass and a wheel route to get a few yards, but nothing too serious.  As far as the rushing 'D', overall they played well.  They were better on direct runs, such as dives and off tackle runs, but they have work to do on draw plays.  I don't know if it was because they got fooled into protecting the pass or not, but there were a couple of delayed hand offs that the 49rers did well on.

The pass rush was excellent, and a couple of things I noticed was a linebacker blitz on first down, which broke up a screen pass, and the defensive linemen alternating spots due to the offensive formation.  These are two things that you don't expect to see from a Raiders defensive front.  Both Michael Huff and Gibril Wilson got in a one good tackle each, Wilson's for a loss on a screen play while Huff's on a slant pattern over the middle.  Neither corner really got tested while they were in, but Routt was in as the nickle corner when the formation called for it.

Here are some of the things that stood out to me:

Tommy Kelly - He looked every bit the highest paid defensive tackle that he was supposed to.  Long time Raider fans will know what I'm talking about when I say that he was coming off the line as fast, if not faster than Chester McGlockton would when he was on his game.  Several times he led the point of attack on stopping running plays and was able to put pressure on the QB when the 49ers passed.  He was the star of the first team defense.

Derrick Burgess - Played well, but not spectacularly.  Maybe I was expecting the monster that we've all been hearing about, but what we got was the same unstoppable force that Burgess has been since he's been a Raider.

Jay Richardson - He was stout against the run and able to put pressure on the QB.  No one play stands out in my mind, but he was better than solid.

Gerrard Warren - Warren, a big guy that loves to rush the QB, showed he hasn't lost any of those skills.  He got pressure on the QB nearly every pass play and ate up blockers on the rushing downs.

Robert Thomas - I don't know if it's fair to say this, but his play was a little uneven.  He was the linebacker that blitzed on first down, batting down what would've been a screen pass for a nice gain.  He also was in on a few tackles on rushing plays and showed that he can be a starter on the team.  There were a couple of plays that he hesitated and got stuck on a lineman, both resulting in decent running gains.

Kirk Morrison - Played the run well, and of course there was nothing in his direction when the Niners went back to pass.  No worries here.

Other defenders not mentioned were either untested or didn't make a play, but none stood out as poor.  All in all, the first team defense did their job, albeit not flashy.  That had as much to do with the 49ers play calling as it did the above players mentioned.  Take away the fact that the Raiders first team defense seemed to get stronger the longer they were in.

First team offense

The story that you're going to hear about is probably going to feature either McFadden or Bush, but the story should be that the Raiders offensive line enabled them to continually punch the ball up through the middle.  On the run, the Raiders ran a majority of their plays right up the middle and got more than their fair share of first downs doing so.

Don't get caught up too much in JaMarcus Russell's statline either.  Even though he completed two of five attempts, he wasn't too far off to be concerned.  He threw one pass to Javon Walker over Walt Harris that could've and probably would've been caught during the season.  The catch would require Walker to make a Javon Walker-like catch, but it was catchable.  Here's what stood out:

Justin Fargas - Sometimes, your memory turns a player into something better than he is, but in the case of Fargas that didn't happen.  He ran smooth, confident, and with power.  I couldn't help but think that the Raiders need this guy.  He's good, so don't be surprised if he shows it this season.  On the lone sack let up by the Raiders, I'm attributing half of that sack to Fargas.  The sack was a linebacker stunt that had Fargas seen the linebacker coming could've at least chipped him, but Fargas had already gone past the linebacker on an outlet pattern.  Other than that play, his blocking and blitz pick ups were good.

JaMarcus Russell - On his first pass, he looked a little tight missing on a long ball to Drew Carter.  There were a couple of defensive reads that he missed, but I don't know if Kiffin was allowing him to audible or not.  He also had to call a quick timeout on the first drive, but there was talk that they might be having headset problems and in the first preseason game it's expected not to run as smoothly as it should.  He hit on a nice slant pattern to Higgins and a wide receiver screen to Carter, but made one mistake when trying to force a throw to Zach Miller in triple coverage.  He needs to work on his reads and his progressions more, and hopefully we'll see him get more of a chance in upcoming preseason games.

Darren McFadden - I'm including him with the first team because he was alternating with Fargas.  What can I say about the Raiders number one pick?  He is FAST.  He didn't have any spectacular runs, but he hits the hole very quickly and he plays slightly faster than Fargas.  His burst enabled him to be through holes before the defense had a chance to stop him and if the Raiders line can get to the second level, we'll be hearing Greg Poppa yelling, "TOOUUCHDOWN!  RAIDERS," quite a bit this season.

Javon Walker - Interesting to note since he's received so much criticism over the offseason, he wasn't consisitent in getting open, but he was able to find some room several times and he didn't look bad at all.  Of course, the Raiders are going to want him to get better.  I'm sure that you could say that about all of them on the team, but I liked where he was for right now and if he can continue to push hard the rest of the preseason, the Raiders are in good shape.

Cooper Carlisle - Hate to do this, but I have to.  Out of all of the Raiders linemen he'd be the last that you'd think would be called out for allowing a sack, but he is.  On the play that I mentioned earlier, he got himself a little out of position trying to cover the center and wound up leaving his lane open to the stunt, getting to the linebacker late.  Unless you rewind the play, it looks like everyone's whipping boy, Robert Gallery, had something to do with it, but rest assured that he didn't.

First team special teams

Sebastian Janikowski was absent with a tweaked hamstring, so it won't be his kicking that we talk about.  It's not unusual for Jano to have leg problems during the preseason, but it would be nice if he didn't.  Even the most game ready player can pull a hamstring, but with him doing it as often as he does, it makes me question his conditioning a little.

The coverage units started off slow.  There were some holes that could have been exploited early, but they seemed to get better the more chances that they got.  The Raiders definitely need to improve in this area though.  The return game was pretty good.  Johnnie Lee Higgins had one good return brought back, but overall they were solid.

Johnnie Lee Higgins -What a difference an offseason makes!  Higgins was confident, decisive, and smart with the football, all things he wasn't very good at his rookie season.  What I liked most about his play was that he was very quick to the ball and was set up to run far sooner than he had to be which is important because when he caught the ball, he was ready to make his move.  In the first quarter, he had a 39 yard kick return brought back for a clipping foul on Oren O'Neal.  I looked at the play several times in slow motion, it was a bad call.  O'Neal hit the guy, who was away from the play, on his side and not his back.  Later Higgins returned that punt for a touchdown that you've no doubt seen on Sports Center.  Every criticism I've ever had about this kid, had been addressed by this young man which is very exciting for the Raiders.  Chris Who?

Shane Lechler - You can't talk about Raiders special teams without mentioning that even when Lechler has a bad kick, it's good.  He boomed some nice punts and the one or two that didn't boom still changed field position.

Trevor Scott - Yeah, Trevor Scott!  He was in on tackles on coverage.  The fact that he's a defensive end, deserved notice.

Isaiah Ekejiuba - Another special teams ace that looked to be in pretty good form, getting in on a few stops.

Jarrod Cooper - See Ekejiuba

Other good showings

Andrew Walter - 10 for 12 passing, and in command.  By far the most impressive offensive player for the Raiders.  Walter is a starter playing backup and if he continues to impress in camp and during the preseason, it's a good bet that someone will be inquiring about his services by next season.  If the unforeseen happens with Russell getting injured, Walter is poised to be the second coming of Jim Plunkett.  I'm not kidding, he looked good except for one play that reminded you of his biggest weakness in 2006.  While in the Red Zone, Walter forced a pass into triple coverage down the middle of the end zone.  The ball would've been picked in a regular season game causing the Raiders to have come up empty on a nice drive.

Michael Bush - He showed that he can be an every down back, a short yardage back, and an outlet for the quarterback on passing downs.  He also showed that he's not afraid to block when needed as well.  Most of his time on the field was doing the dirty work like blocking or making the short yardage gains, but he did show some of that skill he was often hyped about in college.  His best play was his touchdown run where he made three quick moves, zig-zagging to the end zone.  A couple of plays earlier, he took an inside screen pass 23 yards, breaking several tackles.  My assertions that he could be another Jerome Bettis looked to be about right.  He's quick, nimble, and eager to punish defenders when he has to.

Louis Rankin - His 72 yard run took a horse collar tackle to stop him, but his ability to get in and out of holes was pretty impressive.  Being a longtime follower of Cal football, I couldn't help thinking that Adimchinobe Echemandu was going to have an uphill battle making the squad.  Rankin looks to have a leg up in that department.

Terdell Sands - He wasn't mentioned much during the game, and wasn't seen barrelling down on a quarterback, but don't be fooled about the significance of his presence on the defensive front.  The 49ers consistently put two players on him making more opportunities for his linemates.  For those of you wondering if he came ready to play, he did.  On the interception by Stanford Routt at the two yard line, Sands was fighting off two offensive linemen at near the Raiders 40 yard line when the pass was made.  After Routt fumbled the interception return, it was Sands falling on it at the five yard line.  Routt, a former track star, who was running about 45 yards across the field when he fumbled near the five was met there by a 6'7" 335+ linemen who had traveled nearly the same amount of distance and recovered that fumble.  Impressive.  He was called on an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but I didn't see it and it was during a play where he was fighting against two offensive linemen again.

Josh Shaw - This guy was a monster all night long.  He was in the quarterback's face nearly every time the 49ers tried to pass, and was the driving force behind forcing the Routt interception.  He showed up in the running game as well, and if I hadn't already known better, I could've thought it was Tommy Kelly still in the game.  Look for him to make it difficult for Rob Ryan to cut him if he keeps playing like that.

Kalimba Edwards - He was in the 49ers backfield so often, I started to think that he actually was a 49er!  For none of the hype this guy has gotten in camp, he sure showed up during the game.  I don't know if he's one of Kiffin's, "when the lights go on, " players, but he was definitely showing up with the lights on.

Trevor Scott - I already mentioned him on special teams, but he was not looking like he was overwhelmed as has been reported in camp.  He put plenty of pressure on the quarterback most of the night and seemed to be strong against the run as well.

Oren O'Neal - We already knew he could block, which he showed on the Michael Bush touchdown run, but he was also impressive when catching the ball.  He showed that he's not just a blocking fullback by catching three passes on the Bush scoring drive and he also looked pretty quick with the ball.  He's definitely exciting.

Oakland Raiders Raiderettes - You can't talk about good showings without talking about them.  As usual, they were impressive in their first 2008 action.

Others showing up were William Joseph, Greyson Gunheim, Greg Spires (one play where he forced a fumble), Stanford Routt, Adimchinobe Echemandu, Marques Tuiasosopo, and most of the backup offensive linemen.

Rough day

Michael Waddell - It wasn't a complete bust, he did recover two fumbles and caused one of those, but he seemed to have difficulty covering his man.

Chris Johnson - Made a few great tackles, but on his first return attempt fumbled the catch even though he recovered nicely.  He also had difficulty shutting down his man.

Mario Henderson - Several false starts and a few poor blocks.  In his defense, he did play right and left tackle during the game.

Chris Morris - Played well mostly, but had a couple of let downs on his pass protections.

Chaz Schillens - Made the mistake of false starting prior to the Raiders going for it on fourth and goal at the one.  The Raiders would then kick a field goal instead.

Not everyone flashed brilliance, nor did anyone look truly bad.  Those that weren't mentioned either didn't show up in many plays or were unlucky enough not to have any develop in their direction.  The biggest concerns from the game were special teams coverage, secondary coverage, and pass protection.  None of those concerns were cause for worry at this point.

If the Raiders continue to improve as expected, they could become pretty good.  At this point, lets just say that I'm cautiously optimistic.

Thanks for the player info Rob, good stuff.

Collectively our 248 yards rushing was awesome. Takes a lot of pressure off the QB. Be interesting to see when we get behind and J-Russ and Walter have to throw big.

Individually I know you cant mention everyone but there were a few unanswered questions which I hope you or others can clear up. Todd Watkins progress? He was our leading receiver on the night without having mind-blowing figures or does that pretty well sum it up? Are we now doing strong side 'backer by committee as well as running back? Next up Robert Thomas so where'd Ricky Brown go??? I take it no mention of Kwame is good news! Finally I know JLH had a great night but was that enforced by Tyvon Branch's thumb injury? I read it was broke and required surgery. Any further news on that?

Lots of positives out the game. I think it's fair to say the 49ers have a lot of work to do. For them I'd give the starting QB job to Smith. I like him.

I looked at the sack play a few times, and it looked to me like somehow the line was running two different plays -- shades of '06? Guys were going in all sorts of different directions; it was like they were being broken on a pool table. I can't decide whether it's better that it looked THAT bad or whether I'd have preferred one person get cleanly beat.

Overall, an adequate performance. Let's not lose sight of the fact that it was San Fran -- it's not like it was San Diego or something. Still, there were both positives and definite "needs improvement"s (such as the "we didn't even bother to try to have a passing game" passing game).

I liked what I saw from Sands and Kelly, though -- Edwards, too, for that matter.

(Why you have two threads, saying basically the same thing isn't exactly beyond me...Eggo..considering the source..kind of expected. In that regard I'll just cut and paste the comment from there, over here..make it easy on you to retreat meekly from the same comments on two threads. :) Kind of a two for one special.)

As I stated days ago, only a sorryass fool would make a big deal out of a preseason game. Cue in Eggo, lol…as expected.

Also predicted, dead on, that if the Raiders lost, you would be running the "doesn't matter"..if the Raiders won, some of you would be setting themselves up to get slapped down, celebrating and proving you aren’t all that observant.

This is what I stated BEFORE THE GAME:

Mike49er says:

August 6th, 2008 at 10:42 pm

either way it’s preseason, and a lot of the starters are going to get limited or no time.

I read that Bruce won’t be getting any playing time. Gore might get very little or none.

Yeah, honestly it’s so hard to tell.

Fans run the “Our first string did so and so against your 1st string” or “we were ahead 1st quarter”.

History says nothing indicates anything.

Let’s say the Niners slam the Raiders the first two series? Or vice versa?

Raiders and all teams always have a few starters that are either still healing up that they won’t play, or starters like Gore and Bruce that the team doesn’t even want on the field.

Just having a tackle sitting out changes the whole makeup of the game. No RB? WR still healing or resting? hard to tell.

I have long since stopped getting excited one way or the other on the score. Excited the season is here. Obviously want the team to do well, but more interested, as you are, of seeing some positions settle in nicely..obviously qb..D line…some WR step up..etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Again, laughing my ass off that some of you, not all, actually graded yesterday like you did...actually running that stupid "Where is so and so" as if you actually proved a point?
What point would that be..except that you don't know shit about football? (yeah, Pat...lol...you dumbass....talking about your clueless ass.)
Example: Niners made it clear BEFORE the game that we’re starting out 3rd string qb.
Quote from ShitForBrains Nolan: “We know how Smith and Hill play. We want to see O’Sullivan on the field”.
O’Sullivan?? .who, in 9 years has thrown all of 26 passes..lol…yeah…26 in NINE YEARS.
Yes, lol…you started YOUR STARTER…who sucked, BTW, and we started our 3rd string qb, who also sucked.
However, he still outplayed YOUR starter.
Russell had what?
After your much heralded buildup??
WITH YOUR STARTING WR’S IN THE GAME…Russell had an awe inspiring 13 yards…THIRTEEN.
Now, as I stated, I’m not going either way on preseason games.
Kind of stupid for you to run off at the mouth, isn’t it?
(Yeah, yeah, lol…I know Rob..your sorry insecure ass is grasping for something to say, but you had to know I was going to slap you down on this..didn’t you?”
See, I’m not all that thrilled on O’Sullivans play, or any of the qb’s..for that matter…but..I’m also quite aware that BOTH OF OUR STARTING WR’S DIDN’T EVEN SUIT UP FOR THE GAME.
Now..I’m curious..do you think us having both sit…uh…maybe made a difference?
Having our 3rd string (of course, Nolan’s playing his “qb game” which makes Nolan a sniveling bitch, but that’s another story) starting the game..with BOTH WR’s on the bench??
Think the Niners were worried about winning the game?
Or treating the preseason as it is…which is evaluating players?
Also…Gore was in for two plays…TWO.
And was sat.
IMO..that was two plays too many.
You think maybe having our starting RB who led the NFC in rushing season before last…AND having both starting WR’s..both who have had much success elsewhere prior to this year…out there on the field..that it wouldn’t have been different?
Does it matter?
No..it doesn’t. It’s preseason..IT’S NOT SUPPOSED TO MATTER.
I’m glad Gore, and Johnson and Isaac Bruce sat out. They should have..it’s preseason.
They don’t need reps.
Rookies do.
Players trying to make the team..you know...like players that failed badly on special teams that allowed your only score of the first half.
Which makes Eggo, the Waffler’s comment: (ON THE OTHER THREAD) “a complete domination over a 49er team that is definitely in transition on offense,” even more pathetic.
Now, as I recall, some idiot ran the “check the score when the starters go out”..well, our starters WEREN’T ON THE FIELD
..and your starters amassed ZERO points..yet…still…you get some idiot running the “a complete domination over a 49er team that is definitely in transition on offense,”???
See how stupid that sounds..how pathetic??
Now, only a fool would state that.
Now, I know ball less Rob will bail like a little bitch regarding this..so anyone else feel free to correct me where you think I’m wrong. (CUE IN ROB:throwing another hissyfit before hiking up his skirt and going home)
Now, as I recall, O’Sullivan threw an interception on the one…right?
Wasn’t actually an interception..was more like “no one is within 10 yards..let me throw it right to a defender”.
See..that’s a freeby.
Mistake.
Yep, he blew it.
Did you dominate? Naw…was a preseason “WTF was that” gift.
Kind of expected it, honestly.
Guys been on the bench for nine friggin’ years. Having him start was stupid on Nolan’s part..but..that’s the norm for Nolan.
Then..marching down the field again..O’Sullivan..not even being forced..fumbles the ball away..while going down.
Domination on your part? Don’t think so. It’s called another freeby.
A gift.
A preseason mistake.
Why you have preseason.
I stated last week I don’t crow about wins or let losses bother me. Too many things come into play.
Now..Russell?? 13 yards. THIRTEEN. That’s with YOUR STARTERS ON THE FIELD…a measely 13..completion % was 40.
First half passing yards…for the Raiders?? 20…yes…TWENTY.
You’re happy with that?
Complete half.
Twenty yards.
Domination? Lol…no..of course not. Rather stupid of someone to state “complete domination” when your offense got 20 YARDS passing..and scored NOTHING in the first half.
As equally stupid for some on this thread to be crowing about the game. Only a shit for brains dumbass would dare to even crow over the above numbers..or the ones below...but..LMAO....some here did.
McFumble? His longest run was SIX YARDS…SIX…in 12 carries.
Now..it’s preseason. I would be a fool to state ‘haha..look at that”..because it’s PRESEASON.
As well, anyone who ran the ‘a complete domination over a 49er team that is definitely in transition on offense,” would not just be a fool, but would prove it is, actually possible to insert your head up your ass.
He didn’t outrun ANYBODY. He didn’t break a single tackle. Did he play like you HOPED he would? I doubt it.
Yet..some of you fools are crowing? are you serious??? Better yet..is this idiot bit a full time gig?
Was actually pretty ugly on both sides of the ball for both teams.
As is usual for this time of year..defenses were ahead of offenses..both totally out of sync.
4 turnovers from the Niners was the game..only one of those you earned.
(nice strip from our rookie WR)
Pick on the one?
Easy fumble that you had a short field and scored (nice run by Bush.)? You take that away, and the special teams td..and we have an ugly 6-6 tie…but honestly, who cares?
Niners beat the Raiders how many years prior to this, in preseason? Don't know..because it doesn't matter..it's preseason. And it's guys who won't make the team playing against guys who might not/won't make the team.
that's what preseason is.
sad if you look at it any other way.
Hell, both the Niners ROOKIE Wr’s got more yards..than any Raider WR.
So??
Should I say WE dominated?
We didn’t. Be stupid to say.
Raiders sat players..but not key starters.
Niners sat key starters, and started a 9 year “on the bench” qb.
Hell, at that decision the thing to hope for was no injuries.
Be wise to not get to excited because you’re in for a big letdown if you do. Just like I said a week ago..doesn’t bother me.
However…I just knew for certain someone..somewhere..will say something really stupid that I get to laugh at, either crowing, not realizing how easy it would be to shove their words down their throat, or to make some really sorry "domination" comment...that I'm REALLY going to have fun with :)
Michelle49er - Exactly what I'd expect from you. If you'd bother to read the articles posted, you'd see that nobody is hoisting a Lombardi Trophy replica and saying, "We're going to win the Super Bowl!" In order to assess the game, you have to take an objective look at what happened. What happened is that the Raiders executed when your beloved starters were on the field. When I said to check the score, I meant that, and as you said it was zero to zero. That doesn't change the fact that the Raiders were still outplaying the 49ers.
You love to talk about wearing rose colored glasses, but nobody is doing that...except for maybe you. The preseason doesn't count when it comes to record, but it does count when you factor in performance, and the Raiders performed well...they can't help it if the 49ers have excuses for that. You bring up the fact that your receivers were out, but most of the highlights were the Raiders pass rush, running game, and rush defense.
It's Ok, Michelle, it's only preseason. No need to be so bitter over the first loss. They still have time to improve before the regular season, a theme that I've been pounding on forever. :-) Thanks for many of your classless remarks by the way.
Rob,
Once again, it was that inability for the first team to score and the instability in pass protection that has got me worried. Yes, it was against the Niners and more the reason so a TD should have been scored in the first quarter.
On the other hand, that same line showed a glimpse of the trio threat running game that is to be set ablaze in Oakland. Penetration was excellent as well.
Is Mike49er always that ridiculously long-winded?
While I agree that its unwise to read too much into the first game of the preseason, if I were him I'd worry less about the Raiders and a lot more about his team.
Although they play in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL, if the Niners win more than 3-4 games this year, I'll be shocked. They truly looked pathetic on Friday night.
God, Mike fortywhiner is a little bitch.
Nothing is funnier than a guy going on and on for 35 pages about how something doesn't matter to him.
Mike, your stupid, goatsmelling ass would have been the first to put this one in our faces had we trucked out Cal's B-squad and somehow lost to the pathetic shell of a franchise that should be ashamed to wear the same colors Jerry Rice once did. The only Ws your excuse for a team will get this year is in pre-season, so savor the flavor if they actually manage to post one, my friend.
I will enjoy the sportscenter highlights of your former #1 overall pick getting outplayed by a guy from NFL Europa. But really, great plan to have Isaac Bruce as your #1 WR. Or it would have been a great plan if this was 1995.
You better hope Gore is good enough to win games by himself, because you don't have shit else.
Its just funny to see how all hyped up he gets over a preseason loss when he is sitting here telling us not to get hyped up about it. Im sorry bro but you dont see anyone writing a 3 page rant on how we need to be quiet. i gaurantee you if we lost we would have a post exactly like this saying the good and the bad things of what happened. SO quit your whinning, or just pick a new team cause im sorry what happened last night is going to be a re-accuring fact for your team buddy
Mike49er--This is the RAIDER fan from New Mexico. I read your blog from a couple of days ago and you had alot to say about how bad the quarterbacks for the Raiders were. As I watched the game I could see that both teams have work to do. Now I just finished reading your recent blog and for someone who says that this game means nothing you had alot to say. I know you're just responding to what others have said, but instead of complaining and trying to make excuses why don't you just go away. It's been a while since my last blog but I see you haven't matured much since I've been gone. Just admit that they lost, even though it's only a preseason game, and take it like a man. Go ahead and respond with your words of wisdom and make me laugh
Mike49er: awww..look who borrowied his Daddy's balls, and decided to stick his little neck out.
You know you're going back into hiding once I'm done with you, right? Just like before??
Now, you mention my long post..detailing all of the Raiders woes...YET..YOUR SORRYASS DIDN'T HAVE ONE SINGLE WORD TO SAY ABOUT THE RAIDERS..AND THEIR PERFORMANCE.
Why is that?
Because you're a flea..borderline moron. Couldn't defend the words if someone typed it for you, and showed you how to copy.
I'll give you the same offer as the little boy above.
Of course, like him you're not capable of answering..so let me give you an answer.
SpokaneRaiderBitch: "Uh..ya's...we's won da game. Dat's all dat maters to me. I's don't care how Russell looked, or how bad the WR's were, or how sorry our offense performed.
I dont even care that we weren't able to put a single point on the board in the first half from our offense.
Also don't care that our td was courtesy of a freeby fumble...I's don't know how to discuss my team. I'm a moron. Maybe someone can help me out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There..try that one. Has to be better than that stupid whine you had before...yeah..LMAO..BEFORE.

See, you're one of those little cowards that had NOTHING TO SAY before the game, but now, in a meaningless win, you borrow someone's balls..AND NOW post?

lol...you're a little bitch, and that won't change.

Yeah..that's a guarantee.

Now..the Raiders?? anything???

Fucking idiot...didn't think so, lol...

-------

BTW..fool..no..I wouldn't have said anything..see, clown, I posted weeks ago that I NEVER CROW ABOUT A WIN OR CARE ABOUT A LOSS...unlike your sorryass I always back up my words.

Hell... raiderfans.net, fanhome raiders, raiderforum..

We beat the Raiders last year...before that...probably before that as well. Feel free to check, asswipe..I don't make a big deal out of preseason games.

That's for you little kids who don't follow the game.

Fellas Kiffin has to allow Russell to make as many mistakes in pre-season as possible. We can not baby this guy. We will only go as far as our young QB will take us. Everyone has to face the facts that when the season starts, our opponents will stack the line and our QB will have to make plays. The only way this team will take advantage of this very nice running game, is to allow Russell to let it fly. Unlike other young QB’s like V. Young and T. Jackson, Russell is more of a pure passer. Kiffin needs to understand that as long as Davis is running this team he will not have job security. So what does he have to lose. Nothing!!! He really needs to stop with the protection BS of Russell and allow him to grow as a pro.

----

HELLO???? anyone reading???

One of the few here who GET IT.

See...IT'S PRESEASON, YOU MORONS. No one gives a fuck about the score...except insecure little boys who have nothing to say.

You already had a running game...YOU DIDN'T NEED TO POUND THE RUNNING GAME.

You needed Russell to get all the mistakes out of the way now..instead? He completed two passes...for 13 yards.

Niners wanted to see if O'Sullivan could get it done. Mixed review, mixed results...BUT IT WASN'T ABOUT PUTTING EVERYONE ON THE FIELD TO WIN THE GAME..it's about observing players.

How is it possible so many of you are so damn slow?

Maybe 5 total on this raider board get it...the rest? Honestly, as football fans, you're truly embarrassing.

Slapped on bitches don't.

You know..like you.

Watch..moron..lol...like taking candy from an ugly baby.....

Kushy: MIKEY THE NINERS OFFENSE WAS HORRIBLE..

Mike49er: LMAO..didn't take long. Uh..ShitForBrains? how stupid are you to bring up offense when your offense MISSED THE BUS TO THE STADIUM???

See?? from you...THERE WILL BE NOTHING IN REPLY..because you're an idiot.

Russell?? you know..your offensive qb? looked like shit??? anything? 13 yards??? come on moron..think of something in defense..Nothing?? How about those zero offensive points the first half? 20 yards passing??

Told you it would be easy slapping your sorryass around, lol...just too damn easy.

---

Want to see REALLY EASY TO SHIT DOWN YOUR NECK???

KushBitch: good article rob.. very detailed… you know what to that people didn’t notice that’s worth mentioning to me having being there.. kwame harris was pass blocking pretty well.. sometimes he let his guy get too much around him… but for the most part his pass blocking skills was looking half way decent.. which wwas a huge suprise… considering his “complete bust” status in the whiners nation. i’m expecting to see him get better and better as the season unfolds.. hey whineybitchmikey… guess you were wrong about kwame huh? the man seems to be improving YEA?! thought so fag, KEEP CRYING. HAHA!

Mike49er: You make cotton look bright, you know that?

You stupid shit...FIRST SERIES OF THE GAME RUSSELL GOT SACKED BECAUSE OF HARRIS, you dumbass. Even Flores stated it for your slowass. he got beat badly.

My son was watching it again this morning, and laughing his ass off on Kwame's play. Go watch from 7 min. left in the first quarter, and see how sad he looks..guy's floundering around..falling down over and over and over again..and the holding call against Grittith? On Banta-Cain?? Banta Cain was right in front of Kwame...the dumbass just slid over next to the guard to help him while BantaCain came full speed.

Griffith even pointed at BantaCain..yelling to Harris he's coming..HE WAS ONLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF HARRIS..TWO DEFENDERS..OBVIOUS BLITZ..and still Harris slid over and let BOTH FLY BY.

Hell, even the Raiders know he's a liability..look how many times they bring the TE over to help him out or continually make sure a back is there in the backfield on pass plays..on Harris's side.

In other words, Harris played like expected...which was weak...and Kosh again proved even someone with shit for brains can turn on a computer.

Don't get lost next week, moron.

You need directions again? DON'T PRETEND YOU CAN'T READ...do you need directions or not?

Rob AKA Eggo: There is a reason you're called Eggo..you're the backtracking king.

Eggo: "“a complete domination over a 49er team that is definitely in transition on offense,”

Now you run the "read the articles. Facts are the Raiders executed"???

Stupid reply. See..my point is you're a complete idiot for even stating anyone executed. Niners sure as hell didn't.

Now, let me say it again, because so many of you little boys are so slow on the uptake..I don't care that we lost.

What? lol...that bother you? Obviously so.

Can you find me even ONE post from me...AT ANY TIME..that says "Niners are going to kick the Raiders ass in the preseason'?? No...because it didn't happen.

Back to your backtracking like the waffle you are.

Russell?? What?? Nothing? no balls? Your qb didn't dominate shit...yet..from you? lol...as expected...nothing.

Your WR's??? nothing...see moron? YOU ran the "we dominated" childish take..and now you backtrack..AS I GUARANTEED...makes you a bitch.

I know..I know...that hurts. You want so much to stand proud..just once..except you continue to state stupid things that make it easy to humble you.

Now, I know you're hoping others won't recognize the fact you stupidly stated what you did, and now are reduced to pretending you never said it..but they're not that stupid..well, except for the puberty crowd.

Oh..just for fun...can you make...uh...explain just one thing? One thing, Gumby???

I mean... you know..since YOU brought up the "domination" bit...that 20 yards passing in the first half?? 110 total yards passing in the game????

Kind of curious where that falls into the "domination" part.

Oh...have bad news for you. This is a preseason game. It's not a regular season game. It's the time of year you work on what you need to have running smooth for the season. In other words, your dumbass reply that you were GOING TO USE..the "running game was working so we didn't have to pass" just got negated.

See, your BIG QUESTION MARK was not the running game..it was the passing game. Considering that, your passing game has just been exposed as not just bad...but really...really.....really bad.

You think maybe that should have been the main concentration? (actually, the coach did try...but it failed..miserably so..now, your COACH knows it's a big problem. Stated so in the paper.

You??? any clues there, Eggo? lol...also...again...would love to hear how that 20 yards passing "dominated".

yeah, lmao...you're toast.

that was easy..but then again, you always are.

Now, tuck tail between legs,..make an excuse...and whimper off...like you always do :)

Is Mike49er always that ridiculously long-winded?

While I agree that its unwise to read too much into the first game of the preseason, if I were him I’d worry less about the Raiders and a lot more about his team.

Although they play in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL, if the Niners win more than 3-4 games this year, I’ll be shocked. They truly looked pathetic on Friday night.

=============================

They did look pathetic.

It's the first game of preseason.

Time to see how the rookies look.

O'Sullivan????? 9 year on the bench rookie.

Didn't look that good.

RB?? we kept our starters on the bench..backups? had some good runs...not bad...not great.

WR's??? we kept our starters on the bench. Rookies? awesome first game..lots of promise..loved what I saw.

Oline?? not bad, not great. how many sacks did the Raiders get? one? so yeah, for first game..pretty solid.

DBacks?? pretty much shut down the Raiders passing game..didn't they?

Dline? not bad, not great. You ran and ran and take away the one 72 yard run? your "3 headed monster" was kind of reduced to not instilling fear in anyone.

Lots for the Niners to work on.

Now...the Raiders?

You have ANYTHING to say regarding how they played?

Get the point????

Try and muster up a thought and see what comes out.

you know...Raiders?? guys wearing silver and black?? Yeah...those guys...anything?

Didn't think so.

So let me get this straight- if I call you out for bitching for four hours about something that doesn't matter to you, then it's on me for not predicting a win in the preseason game that you said yourself is meaningless.

Great logic there, bud. Of course, whiner fans still think the NFL started in 1980 and they are still the defending champs.

You keep harping on JaMarcus Russell's play. You know who always looked great in the preseason? Ryan Leaf.

You said it yourself. It's the preseason.

Keep rocking that Montana jersey and tell yourself they'll be there again soon. 14 years isn't that long.

Great game. I really enjoyed it and this article. I have been traveling and away from the computer. What is with Russell only playing one quarter? Arm still bugging him? I agree he needs to see as much as possible and get mistakes out of the way. I was inpressed with Bush but he was playing against a crapy second team. I hope he shows as much athletic ability against a real team.

Mike,

You are big pansy! You at the game? I would have loved to beat your little fagot ass. Get a life and try actually enjoying youself instead of ranting about the Raiders all over the freaking internet. You are pathetic! I see you on many sites anways bashing the Raiders. Someone who hates as much as you needs to talk to a therapist. It's fottball buddy! You need a real hobby that is productive and involves less hate. You will never make an impact with Raider fans, regardless of your many rants and 35 pages of BS. We love our team and will always be optomistic. We will outlast any energy you could possible put into hating!

Go Raiders!

Read this to see how Kalimba fared. Warning: He does well in preseason against 2nd/3rd stringers and practice, and is a "lights on -- Lights go out" kind of guy -- as in, when the Lights are on and ones are in front of him, he folds. Maybe he will fare better in Oakland with you guys -- here's hoping, you could use some luck (as if a Lions fan can talk all that much.)

49ers Fan: offense in transition was being nice. Get used to that statline for the game -- and check out the Detroit statlines for the last 2 seasons. I know what you're going to be getting, and it won't be a steady dose of Frank Gore. Get used to opposing defenders being in the backfield sacking/hitting the QB and sending the defense back out on the field...yet again. You'll need 3 QB's -- it's a miracle Kitna survivied!

And I'd bet JTO starts for your 49ers at least one game this season. $100 to Detroit Lions Charities if he doesn't, you pony up $100 if he does. I'll remember this, I doubt you will.

You'll see a lot of yards, a lot of INTs (they throw to a spot Martz says to before the snap -- whether it is a defender, WR, or nothing there.), a lot of sacks (plenty of 7 step drops with no add'l prtection), a ton of yards, and a ton of losses.

I don't root for either team, and the Lions have been bad for so long, I can at least lay claim to knowing what "dysfunctional" looks like -- and the 2008 49ers have it written all over them in big, bold letters.

Good luck!!

Mike49er: Wrong, dumbass. He didn't just let the attacker go by that sacked Russell, he also let a defender fly by where Griffith had no choice but to get a 10 yard penalty because Russell was going to get creamed.

He also was flopping around like a sorry fish out there..guy was tripping over his own feet.

He looked like crap...AND THE RAIDERS STARTED MAKING SURE HE HAD HELP FOR MOST PASSES..means even they know he sucks.

Michelle49er -

Oh…have bad news for you. This is a preseason game. It’s not a regular season game. It’s the time of year you work on what you need to have running smooth for the season. In other words, your dumbass reply that you were GOING TO USE..the “running game was working so we didn’t have to pass” just got negated.

See, your BIG QUESTION MARK was not the running game..it was the passing game. Considering that, your passing game has just been exposed as not just bad…but really…really…..really bad.

See Michelle, this is why so many Raider fans call you an idiot. Let's see, rookie QB, 2 rookie RB's, hmm...what do the Raiders need to work on? Oh, yeah the running game. The Raiders rushed for 248 yards!! The 49ers total offense=268. DOMINATION!! You see, when you already know what the other guys are going to do and you can't stop them from doing it. Raider fans understand that coming off a couple of seasons being dominated in the running game. If you thought for a minute that the Raiders were going to be a passing team this year, then you 'are exactly what we thought you were.' There. Gave you a Denny Green quote since I'm sure you're one of the fools that thought he'd be a Raider coach by now. Now, that was easy Michelle. I'm going to do a poll and let the real readers of TFDS decide, should we continue to give you freedom here or just delete your comments?

DETFAN1979 - Thanks for your input. We really do appreciate you stopping by and giving us intelligent, well thought out, and respectful commentary. We are all hoping that Edwards doesn't fade away as the season goes on like he did in Detroit.

Although Mike49ers rants are long winded (even the wife does n't nag that much!) I dont think you should be looking to delete his comments. When he's not trading threats or insults he can cut quite a good argument. There's usually some sort of reasoning involved be it good or bad. Also while there is definitely a lot of Raider bashing in there you dont want an introspective opinion all the time.

I'm sure the Nation will allow freedom of speach. Can you imagine the reponse if he was 'cut' on TFDS. He will be writing on every other Raider forum going that TFDS did n't want his words of wisdom and could n't handle the truth (in his eyes). Would rather let him get it all off his chest....

It seems to be some of the same "whinner" fans in all of the Raider postings, and blogs and "mike49er" does he have a job ,because he spends too much time in the Raiders postings.

Here in Buffalo,when we think or hear about anything "SanFran", we think of gay parades and a clueless community that permits the kind of crap that goes on there, anything goes! So if you are a "whinner" fan, you should be used to being degraded, as its in your DNA to be a lowlife, just look at the town you support, morally clueless and a football team that is clueless!

I just wanted to say that all game observations aside, Mike, you're kind of a douche.

You win at the internet.

Rob,

I think there should be a word limit when you post here. Mikey's long winded posts are too much. I'm tring to read what OTHER RAIDERS FANS ARE SAYING. Not what 9er fans are saying. If I wanted to hear any shit from a 9ers fan I'd go to their web page. Or I'd go west acrossed the bridge and squeeze some heads. I think you need to give mikey his freedom of speech, but if it gets to long or if he does 5 posts in a row then edit him. As far as the game goes, I did not like the way we handled Russell. He should of thrown more then 5 passes. I think he should of got around 15-20 reps. This guy needs the work the evidence was on the Carter 20 yarded. That pass should of been outside shoulder not inside. Our pass blocking needs all the work we can get them too.

Mike,

You never say anything about your own team...or maybe it is hidden in all the hate? I can't find it. Please give us the good and bad for your team on last Fridays game. Did you see anything possitive? Do you see anything that worries you?

You said you always respond, lets hear it...

the only thing that mike forty whiner said, and he said alot, that makes any sense is the fact that jamarcus did not look good. now, he only attempted 5 passes and if you stopped watching the game to go take a leak then by the time you got done russell was on the sidelines. his brief appearance was hardly enough time to make a valued assesment of his overall ability to lead the offense. look for russell to play and throw more on friday vs. the titans.

whiner mike, nobody here has annoited the raiders as superbowl champions yet and there has hardly been anyone completely gushing over our win in the battle of the bay. what we are happy about was seeing improvements in certain areas of the game that were question marks for our team.

hey rob, good read. i appreciate the insight and indepth analysis of each unit. let the whiner post his garbage. it is very amusing to read. you will be doing the world a favor by letting everyone read his ridiculous rants so that they can all see how much of an inconsiderate douche he acts like.

This is a copy of what I posted elsewhere, in response to yet another Raider fan who views preseason as anything but an opportunity to see who might start, and who might not make the squad.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
about 7 hours ago
First off, rushing for 248 yards is being dominate up front. No matter if it is a scrimmage, a pre-season game or a the Super Bowl.
Second off, not allowing a touchdown and winning the T.O. battle 4 - 0 shows that the D played a great game. They were great in the red zone.
Thirdly, Who cares if the 49ers had there top (and I use the word top loose cause they all suck) WR the passing game was still horrible, and our D was solid.
The run D was solid as well. All we can go on are the stats, and the stats say that the Raiders dominated the gay bay.
I guarantee that Nolan thought they got beatdown....
==================================================================
Mike49er:
Fans point of view: 248 yards. Wow. We rocked. We don't have ANY work to do. Yeahhhhhhhh. We dominated.
Coaches point of view:
Good run from Rankin. Was against guys who aren't going to make the team, though. Was it Rankin, or that that player was out of position? Yeah, my grandmother could have made that run. As a coach evaluating my running game, that number is fun to talk about to reporters, but I would be a fool to now think that number was ground out because of good hard offense instead of it being a defensive mistake from a guy who's probably going to be cut.
Fans point of view: LOVED that run from Tui. Awesome. add those numbers to that rushing total. Holy crappola..248 yards is amazing. We're dominating. We're going to kick ass. WE'RE THE BEST.
Coaches point of view: Good scamper Tui. But don't ask for a raise. The Niners 4th string and "not to make the team" string D bit on a good fake, and you went untouched. Well, Rankin's 72 yards, and Tui's 39 yards is 111 yards. As a coach, it's fun to talk about "248 yards. Yes, reporters we're happy with that, but we have work to do" because I know, AS A COACH that without those two, which aren't likely to happen in the regular season, our rushing total was 137 yards.
I know, AS A COACH that Rankin isn't better than Fargas, Bush or McFumble. I also know that Rankin's OTHER 7 runs ONLY GOT HIM 19 YARDS. That means that the above 3 "stars" got a total of 118 yards for all three combined.
We have work to do. That's not acceptable.
Fans point of view: 4 turnovers. we won the turnover battle.
Coach: I like we didn't turnover the ball. We did strip the rookie of that catch. Other 3 were picks that weren't forced, but were just bad throws. and the fumble was just bad protection of the ball as the qb was scrambling. Still like we got the 4-0 number, but not going to say we were ball hawks, and sure as hell aren't going to say we FORCED THE FUMBLES...we'll leave that to the fans. They like that stuff.
Fans point of view: Who cares if they didn't have their starting WR's in the game.
Coach: They not only didn't have their starting WR's in the game, also didn't have their starting qb to start the game, and didn't have their starting RB in the game. We can't tell anything because they're obviously just evaluating the players. Wise choice. however, I'm sure some stupid fan is going to show their ability to abuse the right to be stupid, and will act like it was a big accomplishment. Well, better them looking stupid than me.
Fans point of view: Run D was solid. Oh, and let me show that I'm really happy to have graduated middle school last year by tossing in a silly "gay" comment, because I'm aware the rest of this stupid take is weak.
Coach: That sat their NFC West top runner year before last. Damn. Would have liked to have seen how we would have done, instead of just watching rookies out there. We did do well against the 4th string though. Not a bad outing.
THE IGNORANCE OF SO MANY RAIDER FANS ON THIS SITE TRULY AMAZES ME.
(posted on Bleachers..but hey, lol...can apply on any number of Raider sites I post on. :) )
I swear, it's like talking to my 15 year old, when he was 11.
That's not BS..that's not smack..that's a fact.
It's honestly like some of you JUST NOW SAW A FOOTBALL GAME, AND SIGNED ON TO A MESSAGE BOARD.
How can so many of you be so clueless?
What I just stated IS OBVIOUS. It's not anything new. I didn't just make it up. EVERY COACH FEELS THE SAME WAY..EVERY SINGLE ONE. They know damn well that teams like the Colts routinely get beat in preseason...teams like NE..etc...BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE COACHES ARE EVAUATING TALENT..and they also know that teams like the Raiders can win 3 or 4 preseason games..LIKE YOU DID WITH SHELL...and they also watched Shell and all of you sorry clueless fans...celebrate A PRESEASON WIN.
Yeah...YOU ALL CELEBRATED JUST LIKE YOU ARE NOW.
WTF????? lol...YOU WERE THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL THAT YEAR.
Hellooooooo???????
ANYBODY GET THE POINT???????????
Fans who know exactly what I'm talking about aren't going to necessarily comment. They would never "side" with a Niner fan, especially me..lol..but they also know it's the first preseason game, and crowing too early sets you up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

POSTED THAT ELSEWHERE, but it applies...regardless of who it's too.

THE RAIDERS WON. NINERS LOST. NINER DIDN'T LOOK THAT GOOD IN MANY AREAS.

Said before the game...don't care.

After week 3???? THEN I CARE...THEN I'LL KNOW.

Now??? Individual play...that's what I'm looking at...and that's what YOU should be looking at..not making stupid threads about 'Haters will shut up for now"..as if Eggo has a choice.

Mike49er: Oh…have bad news for you.

EGGO:See Michelle, this is why so many Raider fans call you an idiot. Let’s see, rookie QB, 2 rookie RB’s, hmm…what do the Raiders need to work on? Oh, yeah the running game.

Mike49er: WRONG. BACK TO THE END OF THE LINE. You have Fargas. You had the 6th best rushing last year...YOU HAVE A ROOKIE QB WHO HAS NO CHOICE but to succeed, or the team goes down with him.

Am I right??

WELL???? YOU ALREADY KNOW what your running game is like..and for that matter, YOU KEPT GIVING ALL OF THOSE RUNNERS REPS throughout the game.

Russell needed to build up his confidence. HE, THE TEAM, AND THE FANS needed to feel really good about him leading the team.

In other words, you don't have a clue.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Raiders rushed for 248 yards!! The 49ers total offense=268. DOMINATION!! You see, when you already know what the other guys are going to do and you can’t stop them from doing it. Raider fans understand that coming off a couple of seasons being dominated in the running game. If you thought for a minute that the Raiders were going to be a passing team this year, then you ‘are exactly what we thought you were.’ There. Gave you a Denny Green quote since I’m sure you’re one of the fools that thought he’d be a Raider coach by now. Now, that was easy Michelle.
Mike49er: Stating stupid things is always easy for some. Read my comment above about your STUPID DOMINATION take, and realize why you're one of the least informed posters on this site.
Amazing that you would even run that weak crap...YEAH ROB...RAIDERS DON'T NEED ANY WORK ON THE QB..JUST KEEP POUNDING THE RUNI.
That was one of the dumbest comments I've read.
BTW...NO ONE AGREES WITH YOU.
You figure out why on your own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

’m going to do a poll and let the real readers of TFDS decide, should we continue to give you freedom here or just delete your comments?

Mike49er: LMFAO...Since my first foray here, you've had others speak for you...why stop now?

Spineless toad..lol...look at you...you allow insults back and forth both coming and going in my direction, and now that YOU'RE a target? YOU toss out insults..and you actually thought YOU WOULDN'T GET THEM BACK??? LMAO..are you kidding me?

And when you do...you now want to ask RAIDER FANS if they want a NINER FAN gone?

All because YOU CAN'T HANG????

You're sad. It's ok when it's anyone else...but you?

Rob: "PLEASE EVERYONE...I CAN'T TAKE IT. AND I KNOW IF I JUST REMOVE MIKE, I'LL LOOK WEAK, SO PLEASE, DO IT FOR ME.

You're not the first mod who accepted defeat...and won't be the last. Whatever happens, no biggee...lol...trust me.

i must say that people like mike make these forums very interesting. let him post. as long as he is spouting his rhetoric on here, the raider fans will have someone to argue with. i find it quite amusing and have had a few laughs at most of the dialogue between mike and the raider nation. for all of those who are in the raider nation, don't drink the niner koolaid. it tastes very BITTER. just ask mike. the biggest reason why mike is on here raider bashing is because there are no true fans on the whiner pages to talk to so he needs to read intelligent threads that give in-depth looks at the progress being made by the only football team in the bay that is worth talking about. GO RAIDERS!

Mike49er: WAIT!!!!. Is this my 5th post???

Oh...no...only 4th....whew....that was close

Niners Good and Bad?

Biggest surprise, and one I'm glad to see was the play of rookie WR Josh Morgan. Was fast, ran good routes, had good hands, and played very well. Caught and held on to some balls that most would have dropped.

WR's overall were ok. Considering the lackluster play of the qb's, and the fact both starting WR's didn't suit up, was surprising they even got to 200 plus yards.

Niners defense played very good in most spots, bad in a couple that cost us, especially the 72 yard run.

D backs did a very good job.

D line did so so..needs a lot of work....lot of very good tackles, some misses. Except for the one long run, kept your rb's running total to a respectable 120 yards or so.

McDonald was all over the place, and got a sack on Russell.

O'Sullivan played like I thought he would. Do enough to keep his job, and screw up enough to show why he's been on the bench for 9 years

Smith was so so. Couple of throws were off target where had they led the receiver would have resulted in good yardage, but he also, under pressure scrambled out of it and looked solid. Overall made good choices.

Hill looked flat considering he was playing against scrubs.

Vernon Davis didn't even seem to be in the game plan. Not sure why. If it was by design, or that his number just wasn't getting called. Martz has stated he's going to use him a lot, but sure didn't on Friday.

O line looked confused. Expected more. First game of season, so I'm not totally surprised, but they weren't in sync. Lot of breakdown with Smith out there.

Was actually surprised the Raiders were held to only one sack(one?).

Running game was a disappointment, but considering Gore wasn't in, and the fact the O line was going through first game burbs, not totally unexpected, and not a worry, at least at this point.

Special teams fell apart and gave up that far too easy run back for a td. Not sure who was in for that, but that group over pursued, and it cost us a td.

Pretty sloppy game overall.

And not totally unexpected.

Good god mike let it go. It's pathetic.

Anyways I thought oakland looked good. Even though it was preseason I was excited they won.

It's good to know that we have a great backup with Andrew Walter, and if Russell fails to perform, I am confident he can take over.

I was impressed with Higgins's returns, lets hope he can keep that up.

I think McFadden and Bush are going to be a devastating combo. And with Fargas to carry some of the load, they will always have a fresh back to run over the tired D.

The raiders D has been a soft spot but it looks like they are improving. Time will tell. This is the most critical area to the raiders success this season IMO.

yeah josh morgan looked great against a db that won't make the team. and yeah rankin had a 72 yard run on the 2nd or 3rd defense ,but after running the ball so much don't you think the niners would have, you know, tried to stop it. you tell me.

So I'm a moderator now? Wow! If that were true, I'm not doing such a good job of it Michelle. I know that it's difficult for you to believe, since you seem to think that the world revolves around you, but we (Patrick and myself) are catering to many others who may or may not want to see your filth on the comment string.

Personally, I don't mind you coming on here at all. I only wish that you'd come on with some knowledge. When you get too far out on a limb, what's the point? If you want to talk strategies, x's and o's, or whatever, come on by. If you want to spew a bunch of garbage and call me an idiot, don't expect that I'm going to continue the discussion with you. The thing to do is to just totally ignore the "whinner", totally.

Do not, in any way shape or form, reply to his hours of repetitive BS. He is a distraction now, and has overstayed his welcome not only here,but in other Raider postings as well.

He is in other places and the moderator should block him by now.

Raider in Carolina, your being too kind with this unfortunate loser by stating you dont mind him in here. We waste too much time reading his hours of childish, gay behavior. Anyone who responds to him just dignifies him. Just ignore him!

I know we are happy with some of the aspects of our first preseason game, I am as well with the exception of not allowing J R more reps with starters such as J Walker and co.

I know he'll get more reps this Fri, but he needs every preseason game to get on track as he lost soooo much time last year. Cramming in the off season is great, but theres nothing like the real thing. If J Walker becomes a distraction, he has to go, like immediately! All of his talk when he signed has sure changed 180 since then, and I feel a little uncomfortable having him hanging around other positive, upbeat team players, but I trust Lane will handle this well..........
