Oakland Raiders: News you can lose

Today the Oakland Raiders started this week's session of OTA's, otherwise known as Organized Team Activities. Even so, the only news out of Oakland was the release of Brian White, the quarterback out of Portland State. I don't know the details of his release, but it was already known that he was going to let go when he wasn't around last week at the Raiders mini-camp.

Taking White's place on the roster is a player that the Raiders had signed during the 2006 season to the practice squad and later released by Kiffin last summer. Tony Jackson, FB, Iowa was signed to probably give Justin Griffith a little breather while Oren O'Neal tries to get healthy from a reported knee injury. Jackson probably has an uphill battle to making the team, but a good showing and an injury to the fullback position could finally get him a spot. At Iowa, Jackson manned the tight end position. He weighs in at 6'2" and 255 lbs.

Jackson has never played a game in the NFL

Around The League

No Gray sightings

It's been reported that the Raiders may show interest in Quinn Gray now that he's available...again. Am I in a time warp or something? I could've sworn that this guy just signed with the Texans a couple of months ago. According to reports, he was only signed to be an insurance policy if the Texans traded Rosenfels. Two questions: 1) What was his agent thinking, when Gray had other opportunities? 2) What's the over/under on the firing of Gray's agent?

Sims still looking

Barry Sims, the former Raiders left tackle, is still looking for a job. It's now being reported that he's working out with the Ravens today. If I hope that he signs with anyone besides an AFC West team or the Niners, does that make me a hater? For some reason, the Raiders haven't re-signed him to be a backup...or according to what was reported last week about the tackles, a starter. For all of the negatives that can be attributed to him over the past seven seasons, it's not his fault that he beat everyone else out for the starting job. Good luck Barry.

Wyche teaching the West Coast Offense on the East Coast?

Sam Wyche, the former Walsh protege' and head coach of the 1988 season Super Bowl losing Bengals, amongst other teams, is one step away from becoming a Pickens County Councilman/person (Oddly enough, former Bengals great Carl Pickens joined the Bengals the year after Wyche was dismissed by the club). Wyche won the Republican primary for the seat and will face off against Democrat Heywood Burbage. The county, located in South Carolina, is where Wyche lives and currently volunteers as a football assistant at Pickens High.

Wyche never feared the 'ice cream man' look of wearing orange and white

Man, if he were a Raider...

Even if he was a former Bengal, things would be different for Terrell Owens. Owens reportedly missed 'day-of telephone calls to set up random tests.' His punishment for this error? No, he's not getting suspended for four games like we've heard of in the past. In fact, he's not being suspended at all. Owens' punishment is getting placed in the league's' "reasonable cause" testing program for performance-enhancing drugs. For all of the reporting about the Raiders being a team of outcasts, malcontents, and bad boys, I find it funny that the Cowboys are now being compared to the same Raiders that NEVER seem to have this problem. For everyone out there, the Raiders haven't had issues like this since Jano was drafted. Now, you'd have to call Seabass, a choir boy in comparison to the players getting busted nowadays. All that I can say is, "Good thing T.O. isn't a Raider," cause he would've been suspended.

Told you that this was news you could lose...didn't I?

Just warming up on the bench at TFDS

Why get rid of Walter? He knows the system, has a pretty cheap cap hit, and from everything I have read about the precamps etc, seems to be training and performing really well. The only reason I would get rid of him would be to a Team where he could have a chance to start and prove himself.

The problem with Jano is that we spent a first round pick on him and he never totally lived up to his (1st round) potential. For what we are paying him, I am happy. Strong k/o, pretty good on the FG's... lots of kicks left in this guy. I also always struggled with how the RAIDERS could have kept Joe Nedney (who went on to do great things in the NFL) and use that pick on another position. Thanks for the RAIDER NEWS! Keep it coming!

Can Tony Jackson play SLB?? At 6/2, 255 he's got decent measurables for the position. BTW, any update on how Ed Hartwell is looking??

I wouldnt mind giviving Gray a shot.Sign him or Culpepper. We need a left tackle & a sam lb and a kicker.Time to send seabass & Sands off to sea.Getting rid of Walters,Jordan,Seabass & Sands gives us salary cap room to sign the players we need.

The good news out of Oakland is that Kiffin is still the head coach which means the Raiders still have some stability, a system and Walker and Kelly must be getting healthier. The bad news is AD is still in charge: so we have not replaced our mediocre tackles for our passing offense, we have no viable backup QB for the WCO and Sands is still around.

Get rid of Seabass? That guy has a leg, no way would I get rid of him. They other three...no problem, wouldn't miss them.

I took my brother and sister-in-law to a game last year that Seabass hit a 60 yarder or something...she just bought a Janakowski jersey. LOL She may be the only one in the nation with one, besides maybe his mom.

Seabass's %'s will go up this year cause he'll be kicking fewer 50+ yarders!

Jano only led the league in touchbacks didnt he?

The Seattle Sea$ocks just let Josh Brown go because he COULDNT get the touchbacks that ELIMINATE these super return men. Jano stays.

Give Jordan to ANYONE but denver, but.....

Jano stays!

Dont worry, my wife has a polock thing and got his jersey too...I think with our running attack this year and our recievers healthy we should be in better range to kick shorter field goals and even score some TD's instead of kicking all the time... GO RAIDERS!

Sebastian Janokowski is without a doubt my favorite polish dude. Big leg, clutch not so much, but in all fairness there hasn't been too much to be clutch about. It's been at least 3 years since the team has had to bail him out, a good run if it ends this second. I'd like to think thats a sign of maturity, or at least the maturity to hire a driver. Kicking requires a lot discipline in a lot regards, consequently the world probably has not seen the best of Jano.

-Rob all news is lost at some point, some just faster than others. Good read nonetheless

I know it won't matter.... Walter doesn't have an "S" at the end regardless of how many attempt to place it there.

SeaBass - It's like he's this great kicker, then he shows up to some games drunk and can't hit a thing???

Making TO (2) a Raider is and was a bad idea. Don't do it!

Speaking of Nice Guy Raiders... I saw some stat last year where they were the least felonious in the AFC. Go Figure!

Been to Poland several times - Good Times!

Ken: Nedney was not the Raiders kicker prior to the drafting of Seabass so your theory doesn't work. Nedney was brought in while Seabass had Cellulitis. I miss Nedney as well. He was a much more reliable kicker than Jani. Seabass is like a box of chocolates...now if only he would stop eating all of them.

MrMojo - thanks for appreciating :-)

LDizzle - I hate to correct anyone, but Nedney was signed late in the 1999 season, and did well for the Raiders who then turned around and made Jano a first round pick in 2000. Nedney was pretty pissed about it too and has made it his mission in life to have good games when playing the Raiders since.

Devin Hester was held to nada by Jano and the Raiders last year. Jano led the NFL in touch backs, hit a 60 yarder, and hit the TOP of the upright in DEN from like 59 or something crazy. He is a pro kicker and our days of Husted and Ford are long gone since we drafted him. CASE CLOSED.

DAL, DEN and CIN are the refuse pitts of the NFL nowadays, but you'd never know it by listening to the so called experts.

BTW the vote between Guy and Stabler should not be a choice. They both stand as examples of the travesty that is the Pro Football Hall of Popularity.

Seabass is great! Lets not forget that he has the highest Raiders franchise record for highest field goal completion percentage, is a great for the touchbacks and has one of the most powerfull legs around.

Plus when you look at the first round of the 2000 draft there would be lucky to be 4 or 5 players that have turned into "stars" and none that were drafted after the Polish Keg

J- There are 10 raiders who should be in. The vote is to see who we are going to unite behind to campaign for. Time to paint Canton silver and black again.

What about Chris Simms? I think he is worth bringing in to have a look. I also say bring B-Simms back in at a reduced price
