Blood Feud-Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs rivalry one for the ages
There is no denying that the Rivalry between the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs is one of the fiercest in all of sports. The Raiders and Chiefs have been going at it since the formation of the AFL in 1960. The rivalry got heated once Al Davis returned to the Raiders following his stint as the commissioner of the AFL. Davis believed that H Lamar Hunt the late owner of the Chiefs stabbed him in the back during the merger negotiations, and once Al believes someone is his enemy, that person is marked for life. That dispute has long passed, and Al spoke at Hunt's funeral, one thing remains, when the Raiders and Chiefs play its going to be a tough hard fought game no matter the records. A Chiefs' loss is almost as good as a Raider win to the Nation, its that intense of a rivalry.
In an example of the strength of this rivalry, my colleague here at MVN.com Ryan Brown over at The Home of the Chiefs has written two Raider oriented articles in the last couple of weeks. His first a bash job of Al Davis on 26 January where he rehashes the standard lines about Davis. Yesterday he penned an article about a game where Derrick Thomas owned the Raiders. (Thanks for the flashbacks, a-hole! (Just kidding, Ryan. Kinda))
There are other rivalries around sports. ESPN won't let anyone forget about the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry. Living on the west coast, I hear a lot about the San Francisco Giant and Los Angeles Dodger rivalry. Those are both long standing, and somewhat heated, but thats baseball. Dodger fans boo Barry Bonds more than other fans. Red Sox fans can't stomach Derek Jeter or A-Rod. (But then who can?) But then I can't stomach Red Sox fans, so I am not taking side here.
In football, there have been many rivalries over the years, but most of them have faded in the free agency era. Miami-New England used to be a big one. Dallas and Washington is still there, not near what it was during the George Allen days, but its there. Meanwhile, Oakland v Kansas City is still a game that is as likely to get the fists and yellow hankies flying as the ball flying.
Just to show what happens when the Raiders and Chiefs meet, here is Stuart Scheweigert giving the hit of his life on Tony Gonzalez

Ah...bait the hook, and I'll come crawling back to unwashed Raider Nation. Pat knows me too well - he knew I couldn't resist a Raiders/Chiefs article.
It's good to see that it only took the death of a "mortal enemy" for Al Davis to forgive and forget...well, at least speak at the man's funeral. If that's the case when the tables are turned, I think there will be fistfights to talk at Al's funeral, which as a Chiefs fan, I hope isn't for six or seven more decades.
(By the way - if, as most of you Raiders fans seem to agree on, that was Stuart's best hit of his life, did he have to stand over my man like that? The saying is "Act like you've been there before", but it's entirely possible that a hit like that was totally new to Stewie.)

One minor problem with that clip: KC won the game. ;)

Queefs, Dolts or Donkeys it matters little.
We hate them all equally.
BTW, it hasn't been the same since Marty left.
And Anthony, let's not forget we won the next one.

Ryan,
I got the idea after seeing your Raider obsession over there on your Chiefs site. You can't stop talking about us. You know that you feel the power of the Dark Side.

II'm old enough to remember the bitter battles fought between these two teams in the late 60s/early 70s. 'Intense' doesn't begin to describe it. My favorite was when Big Ben Davidson speared Len Dawson after the latter had scrambled for what appeared to be a game-clinching first down. Otis Taylor runs up and gives Davidson what-for, a melee ensues and when the dust has settled, off-setting penalties are called and the first down was negated! Next thing you know, Blanda kicks a field goal and the game ends in a tie. It's interesting to note that the incident led to the creation of 'dead ball fouls;' if the same thing happened today, Dawson's first down would have stood and the fighting players would have been dealt with separately. Which brings the total to at least three instances in which Raider games directly inspired tweaks of the rules: the 'Holy Roller' and also the Marquez Pope fumble recovery where his momentum carried him into the end zone for a (bogus) safety. Of course, we Raider fans are still waiting for a fourth: the quarterback needn't fully 'tuck' his arm back into his body in order for a loose ball to be ruled a fumble.

When I was 8 years old my big brother took me to frank yuell field which i believe is now Laney college parking lot and weekend flea market last time I was there, and it was the raiders playing the chiefs, Little did i know then that it would become a lifelong obsesion and I can remember that game today just like it was yesterday. Now for some stats
since 1970
kc: 5 afc titles and no superbowl, and a whopping 23 years between two titles, forget consecutive!
Raiders: 13 afc titles, and 3 superbowls. With run of 5 consecutive afc titles. Not to mention all the controversey, all the disputes, shit what other team can take all the hype away from the superbowl and upcoming draft, everyone was talking Raiders, even haters
So the numbers dont lie.............For Life Raiders

Almost but not quite, PlayayNegro. I'm getting up there, but I missed out on the Yuell years. In fact, my earliest Raider memory was crying when they lost the 68 AFL championship game to the Jets. I was seven.
